Grubelnik Museum of Antiquities
Near our farm, you can visit the Museum of Antiquities. The tools or aids once used in farm work, in the household and other activities, were carefully collected in the vicinity of Ribnica na Pohorju by local Alojz Grubelnik.
Ski resort Ribnica na Pohorju
The ski resort is only a few minutes away from the town centre. The winter sports area is situated between the elevations of 715 and 921 m. For skiing and snowboarding, there is 2 km of slopes available.
Sgerm spruce
This magnificent 61.8-metre spruce (Picea abies) is Slovenia’s tallest tree as well as the tallest tree of mid-Europe. The diameter at breast height is 113 cm, and the age is estimated at 300 years. Visiting is possible on the Sgerm farm, accompanied by the owner.
Energy points near the St. John’s church
St. John’s church, late Gothic architecture with 17th-century furnishings. The church is located in the area of the Municipality of Podvelka but belongs to the parish of Ribnica na Pohorju. There are energy points around the church where you can recharge with positive energy.
Museum of Stonecutting, Glassmaking
and Forestry in Josipdol
The museum collection mostly consists of shards and glass fragments from the former glassworks that operated in Josipdol and Landesvald from 1799 to 1909. Attention is also paid to the stonecutting trade, which was on the rise after 1880.
You can see simple tools used in the past for cutting tonalite stone, and an open-air museum, where the glass-making furnace, timber slide (“riža”), a stonecutter’s hut, a machine for the production of granite cubes and a charcoal pile are exhibited as well.
Ribnica lake
On the slope, east of Ribniški vrh lies Ribniško lake and a peat bog surrounded by a pine forest, at an altitude of just under 1500 m. According to legend, the lake is inhabited by a man named Jezernik, who lives underwater and it is said, he had moved the lake from Uršlja gora.
Ribnica Lodge
Ribnica Lodge is the highest mountain lodge in the Pohorje. It lies on a small plateau below Mali Črni vrh in the main Pohorje ridge at an altitude of 1505 m. In the summer, the hut can be accessed by car along the local road from Ribnica na Pohorju, and footpaths are also marked.
